2014 Nissan Versa Sedan S Plus

Mazda3 Skyactiv

Clocking at $20,020, this car can reach 40 MPG when properly equipped. If you can pay $20,020 for the  Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine as well as the six-speed automatic, and you’ll see an improvement of up to 12 mpg on the highway over the 2.5L engine option in the Mazda3, or an improvement of 7 mpg over the non Skyactiv 2.0L engine.

2012 Kia Rio 1.6

Around $13,000, this cheap car is a true 40 MPG contender because of the new 138 horsepower 1.6. Its looks are also great.

2012 Hyundai Accent

Another cheap car coming in at only $14,195, the accent 1.6 is one of the most fuel efficient low cost Hyundai you can get your hands on.
